Origami Star Box

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

starbox3.JPGMy daughter got an origami set for her birthday and has been pleading with me to help her make things. The set came with a great little book with step by step directions. My favorite kind of directions pictures not words. So here is a little star box I made. I used two pieces of paper so that the inside could be as pretty as the outside. After making this we thought of all the great things you could use for party favors, little gift boxes, earrings and ring holders. I could see a whole bunch of them for a wedding or baby shower with candies in them all around the room. After getting the knack of the basic folds it then becomes much easier to make all the things in the book. I am still trying to figure out the angelfish this one has me stumped. I might have to actually see someone make it and then try it. The internet is a great place for finding step by step instructions. My only tip would be to start out with scratch paper (like left over thin scrapbook paper) instead of using the pretty and sometimes costly origami papers.starbox2.jpg

Card Sets Worth Giving

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

cardset.jpg
These little card sets are another top request from clients. They make great thank you, hostess, or any kind of little gifts for people. Inside this bag are two of each of the following cards. Every set I make is as individual as the person requesting it. At Christmas time I made six strawberry sets for a friend of mine. A small group of friends she knows call themselves the Strawberry Cake Club so every year she tries to get her friends in the group something to do with strawberrys. I also made her some vintage style cocktail aprons with strawberry material. These sets are fun to make especially when I am making special requests.

Okay, here is what the kids came up with. Amazingly none of them chose to do jewelry even though we had wire, beads, and ribbons.

Summer Boredom Challenge 1

So I have a house full of four girls for the next month. I want to nip the summertime “I’m bored” in the bud right away. In about a week my sister in law and her daughter and son will be down from Washington (state). I know that will help a lot but they will be staying with my mother in law so we most likely won’t see them everyday. Hopefully we will see them enough to fill some days. This morning I am giving them a challenge. I am going to put red, white, and blue papers on the table. Along with paper trimmer, whole punches, ribbon, beads, and jewelry backs. This should be interesting to see what they come up with. The age range is 5 1/2, 7, 9 and 14 plus myself if I decide to take the challenge. I will post the outcomes at 12:30p.m. central time today. So be sure to check back and see what they come up with. Why not try the chellenge yourself? I would love to see all of your wonderful ideas.
